This website was created to keep the name of Nicky Hopkins alive. Who exactly is Nicky Hopkins ? Only the
most prolific session pianist ever !! Name any British band of the 60's and Nicky has most likely played with them.
The Beatles, The Rollings Stones, The Kinks, The Who and the list goes on and on. I first became aware of
Nicky when I would throw on some of my favorite Rolling Stone records. I remember throwing on the Stones "Between the
Buttons" and becoming aware of the beautiful piano playing behind Jaggers voice. I thought it was Brian Jones !! About
that time I remember reading the credits for "She's a Rainbow". N. Hopkins it said. I remember being disappointed
that it was not Brian, who was at that time one of my favorite musicians. Later I would learn that most of the stuff
that I thought was Brian was really Nicky Hopkins.
There are so many songs that Nicky helped to create. I read a quote by Pete Quaife of the Kinks
recently and he stated that Nicky could play his part to a song almost before it was played for him - perfectly.
It is Nicky who does all the great harpsichord stuff on the Kinks records. Songs like "Session Man" and "Rosie
Won't You Please Come Home". It his him on "Sunny Afternoon". How about the tasteful piano licks he
does in the Stone's song "Let it Bleed". Not to mention that incredible solo in the fast version of the Beatle's
song "Revolution".
Thanks for taking a look at my site. Be sure to get in touch with your thoughts and suggestions. I'll be updating
frequently, so please check back often.
